THE LAB SCHOOL
The STEM Lab School is a partnership between the CSU Dominguez Hills’ Center for Innovation in STEM Education (CISE) and the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). The STEM Lab School launched in the summer of 2012 at Gage Middle School. The purpose of the Lab School was to bring a dynamic STEM program to inner city, high need schools that would expose students to hands-on STEM activities while bringing awareness to STEM fields. Over the past five years, the STEM Lab School has served over 5,000 students in eight Lab School sites. We are continuing our mission to expose more students to the wonderful world of STEM!
The STEM Lab School provides supplemental instruction and support to schools in the community by providing students with Project Based Learning (PBL) experi- ences and an interdisciplinary STEM Curriculum focused on strengthening students’ abilities in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Literacy and 21st Century Skills. Students collaborate to design, develop, and create STEM based projects. Students in the Lab School also sharpen their presentation skills by presenting their projects and findings to classmates, parents/guardians, teachers and administrators, and community members.
Our hope is that this experience will kindle or propel an interest in STEM Careers. These careers are in high demand and preparing individuals to work in these fields is critical to the success and progress of our country and the advancement of humankind.
